The jet cut through a muggy, Portland sky to touch down on the rain-drizzled runway. Only the Northwest could produce such a gray day in June.
Although it rarely rained on the small Greek island Natalia Madius came from, she did not notice the gloom. She was coming to a new country, to a new life, and if her husband-to-be was half as magnificent as his letters, it would be a wonderful life.
In spite of the excitement, Natalia's face drained from translucent ivory to a near cadaver-white as she peered nervously out the window.
