In the late nineteen forties, the country was rocked when teenager Mickey Jelke, son of a wealthy oleomargarine manufacturer, was arrested on charges of pimping for his father's wealthy business associates. Young Jelke, heir to a sizeable fortune, still made use of sex, the oldest and most defenseless weapon, to get more money-money that he himself earned from his father's rich friends.
Herman P. Miller, in his book Rich Man, Poor Man, makes a point of the fact that over twenty-five million American families earn six thousand dollars or less annually. On the other hand, he says, only a half-million families earn more than twenty-five thousand dollars in a year's time.
