Patty was tingling all over. The nightclub was packed to the rafters, and everyone was on their feet applauding as Patty and the rest of the cast took their final bows. This, Patty said to herself as she bowed again, is what Las Vegas is really all about.

The audience was applauding, of course, for far more than Patty's performance alone. In fact, it was doubtful if many people even noticed the name of Patty Douglas among the two dozen or so names listed in the program under "Dancers." And it was doubtful that Patty looked much different from any of the other girls, each clad in the scantiest of spangled g-strings, a tall feathered hat-and nothing else. But to Patty, who had been in the show only a month, that didn't matter. As she stood in line on the runway, it felt as if all the applause was directed solely at her.
